Rome: Pantheon

Model of the Pantheon in its original form

The Pantheon is considered a top ten architectural structure by experts. Pantheon means a temple to all gods. The Pantheon was built in 126AD by Emperor Hadrian. This structure was built by slave labor. The structure of the building was built out of concrete with marble on the outside and the columns were imported from Egypt. However, a standard practice among the Romans is to reuse. So, over the years the Romans stripped the Pantheon of its marble on the outside for other uses. And as of today, there is no Marble on the outside of the Pantheon. Also, the Italian Renaissance painter Raphael is buried inside the Pantheon, because he loved the Pantheon
